Accessibility is more then a luxury, sometimes it's a necessity...

Bear Alaska has had the honor of helping disabled and elderly homeowners modify their homes to suit their needs and desires.

Accessibility into and out of your home, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen are not luxuries it is a necessity in order for you to stay
in your home as long as it suits you.

With the economy and low existence of affordable accessible housing in our great state it's time to consider remodeling your home to suit your needs.  If you genuinely like or love your home, but there's just one thing or maybe a couple of things that could make your life easier, safer, and more enjoyable then give us a call and set up a free appointment to have your home evaluated to see if this is a
feasible option for you.

There are programs out there that may help you cover some or possibly all the costs to meet your requirements.  Arming yourself with knowledge about these programs and what options are available to you regarding remodeling can only help you help yourself in achieving accessibility to the most fundamental parts of your home.

Staying home with the least amount of assistance is very appealing to independent homeowners that don't want to be handled and/or considered a burden to friends and family.  Having ones own space is important to self confidence and overall morale and is something that shouldn't be taken lightly.

We're here to assist you in making that happen...
The photos below are before and after shots of a remodel in Kenai that the homeowners had problems with access to their master bathroom, bedroom and no emergency exit on that side of their home.  The automatic wheel chair couldn't maneuver in these areas and was damaging their flooring.  The original floor plan and the floor plan with the new alterations as they were applied is here for your review.

The wall between the closet and bathroom was removed to allow for a much larger bathroom with easy access from a wheel chair to hanging clothes.  The tub/shower enclosure was removed along with the sink/cabinet.  This allowed for a roll in shower, pedestal sink and an ADA toilet to be installed.  All making it more user friendly to anyone having to use a wheelchair or walker.

All the flooring in the main living area, hallway, bedroom, new bathroom was replaced with a solid hardwood floor per the homeowners request.  All the interior trim was replaced with stained knotty pine and all interior doors were replaced with 2-panel arch stained knotty pine.  The homeowners really enjoy color so custom colors were selected and applied to the entire home.  Far different then your average white walls.

An emergency exit was put in on the same side of the home as their sleeping quarters and a 5' x 5' concrete landing with an additional 10' ramp, both with concrete curbs were installed to get the homeowner  away from the home in case of emergency.  A new wider concrete access was put at the front door with the landing height made so easy access out the front door to the newly paved driveway.  A new paved parking space was added on the garage side.

The homeowners can reach all the fundamentals of their home and this remodel will allow them to stay in the home much longer and much more comfortably.

The photos below are before and after shots of  a ramp that was incovenient for the disabled condo owner and an eye sore on the front of the condo building.  The old ramp was completely removed and the two large step concrete walkway was divided in half so people have the option of using the steps or new ramp.  The new concrete ramp with a handrail  seperating the two different access surfaces became the permenant solution that won't rot and  added to the estetics of the existing building.
